Lots going on here!

So, remember on Monday when I showed you what I was planning to do throughout the next couple of weeks and during my maternity leave?!  It turns out the Lord had something else in mind.  I went to do a follow-up MRI on Tuesday, and come to find out I need to have brain surgery to remove the abnormal blood vessels.  You can read all about that on my personal blog HERE.  I say all that to say that I am so thankful I was already planning for maternity leave, because now when I go into surgery on Monday, I don't have to worry about my classroom one bit!  It was a hard week trying to get all of the last minute things prepped, talking to my students about not seeing them for a few months, and cramming everything my sub needed to know in ONE day when she shadowed me on Friday.  But, I truly feel like God has been helping me prepare so that I could literally leave without any kind of stress!

I do have a few pics from this past week... don't even know how I found the time to snap any, but I'm glad I did because I won't be in my home away from home until probably March!  That's so hard to imagine!

We have moved from Addition with regrouping into Subtraction with regrouping.  I tried so hard to engrain this concept into their brains before I left, but they definitely still have some work to do!

We made a little flap-book from my subtraction unit...
And, we are saying these rhymes like CRAZY now.  I'm pretty sure I dream in subtraction rhymes!

My sweet teammate shared this YouTube video with us, and the kids LOVED it!

We also tackled figurative vs literal language skills with Amelia Bedelia.  This year I used Ashley Reed's Peggy Parish unit, and it was PERFECT in every way!  I highly recommend it!  You won't need any other resources for your Amelia Bedelia unit!

As I was finishing up my sub plans, I realized that I'm not going to be there for all those fun Christmas crafts!  But, here are the things my kiddos will be doing.  They are already copied and ready to go!

The Grinch and Reindeer were inspired by Cara Carroll.  For the Grinch, my students will make a text-to-self connection and write about a time when they were feeling grumpy like the grinch, and they will also write adjectives on the white circles to describe Mr. Grinch himself!

For the reindeer, they will read a book about Rudolph and then write a short letter telling Santa why they would make a good reindeer on Christmas Eve!
The bottom 2 crafts are from Reagan Tunstall.  The kiddos will be learning all about adjectives in 2 weeks, so they will write an adjective on each ornament for their adjective tree!  On the bell, they will read a Christmas story, write the main idea on the bell, and the details on the links!  So fun!  Would it be weird if I asked my sub to take pics so that I could see how all these cutie things turn out, ha?!  I'm sure that won't be my concern at the moment, but still!

So, as soon as I found out that I wouldn't be at the Christmas party, I emailed my super-duper-amazingly organized-awesome in every way room mom.  She is the bombdotcom, for realz!  Not only is she planning the party for me, but she also threw me a surprise pre-party with my kids before I left on Friday afternoon.  I walked into the library and my kids popped out from behind the bookcases singing, "I wish you a merry Christmas."  Seriously, melt.my.heart.  They were so precious!  She even had a Grinch cake made since that's our party theme this year!  They made me cards, gave me gifts, and the whole ten yards.  It was an absolute perfect (and maybe a little crazy) way to end my time with them!

Not only do I have the BEST room mom, but I also work with the sweetest people EVER!  They made me a hospital survival kit for next week.  And, this is the 2nd one they've had to make me this year... I tried to tell them they can't keep doing this because I've become a little too needy, ha!

Whew!  That ended up being longer than I expected!  I'll try to pop in here every once in a while throughout my time off, but I'm definitely not making promises!  After my month of recovery, I'm hoping my little one will be here so that I can go straight into mommy-hood!  But, I will be keeping up with my personal blog throughout my recovery and adoption journey.  So, if you don't see me here, I'll be over there!

Thank you to everyone who has continued to pray for our adoption and my health.  My heart is overwhelmed with encouragement and love from y'all!

There will be angels surrounding you Amy. I don't want to sound weird but I keep seeing you waking up after surgery is over when I pray for you. I just thought you should know that I have seen that same picture in my mind no less than 5 times.

You are a true inspiration. I adore you, your posts, your products, and your internet friendship.

Prayers will continue tonight, throughout tomorrow, and on.

Much Love,
Reagan

Amy,

When I think of you and all that you are going through, I am reminded of Laura Story's song "Blessings". Your amazing faith is just one of the ways God has used you to touch my heart and the hearts of countless people who are blessed by YOU! I know things are scary right now but God is bigger than all of the storms we face.

You will be on my heart and in my prayers sweet Amy. I pray your little blessing will be here in God's perfect time.

In His Love,

Heather
