I have officially survived the first week of school and am in a complete state of exhaustion. I am excited to kick off next week in full routine! I've spent my last few weeknights and this morning getting a little unit prepared for our English focus that we'll be working on over the next few weeks. We are going to spend a pretty substantial amount of time working on sentences, types of sentences, punctuation, complete/incomplete, and more so I wanted to gather all of my activities into one spot! Plus, add a little more fun than what I've done in the past.
I have 14 boys, y'all. 14! That's A LOT! So, some of my over-the-top girly crafts may not work as well this year. I'm trying to gear my thinking into what both boys and girls will enjoy. So, after Stacy Johnson showed me her new punctuation hero clip art, I knew I had to incorporate it somehow. They are just so precious!
In my new unit you will find this punctuation hero headband where students write the different types of sentences on the cards, glue them to a sentence strip, and make a mask for the front/center. I think my kids really really enjoy this one! Give the girls some pink and purple construction paper, and they will be all over it, too!
I LOVE pocket-books... so, I've included a pocket book to sort asking/telling sentences. Students make their pocket-book, cut out sentences and place them into the correct pocket!
I made 2 charts for my sentence unit:
You can find all of that and lots more in my TpT store! Just click on any of the pictures, or {here}
Here's a better look at everything included:
Now, I'm off to really relax over the next 3 days. Gotta love a holiday weekend :) especially after the first week of school!

Thanks for sharing this great unit Amy! My class spends the first couple weeks of 2nd grade focusing on sentences too. The super sentence headbands are so cute! I can't wait to do that activity when I read The Super Sentence Girl from scholastic's punctuation set! Have a great school year!

Hey girl! I am so excited about this! We review sentences at the beginning of the year in our reading series, so this is perfect timing! I have 17 boys and 12 girls, so this is perfect for my boys! LOVE IT!

Thank you so much for this! I'm studying to become a teacher and this will be super useful for me :)
You really do know how to hit the nail on the head, don't you? I can see this being PERFECT once I go back to school.
Thanks so much for being one step ahead!

i love those anchor charts on asking/telling and complete and incomplete. and the super hero idea, is "Super Cute" I am definitely going to share those with my team. Just curious, how do you tile your packets? I am on tpt as well, and have been trying to figure out the preview docs forever.

Amy, I love this unit!! I'm headed over to snatch this up! I can totally relate to the overload of boys. I have 12 boys & 5 girls this year. Then I found out Friday that I will be getting my 13th boy on Monday! So this activity will be perfect for my class too. Thanks so much!! :)

This is a great unit!! Thanks so much for sharing!
This is great! I have been looking for ideas to help my students understand what a sentence is. I have a lot of ESOL students and they still come to 2nd grade without knowledge of complete sentences. I am excited to get your packet and look through it. Thanks again for taking the time to design this. Teachers like you are heros to me. :)

Amy - Again, a great unit!
I was wondering if you have a program or something you use to create your previews (like the last one on your blog) or if you just screen shot each page? I would love to know how to do it!
PS - Congrats on your recognition in the Weekly TPT 10 Free Downloads email! How amazing!

I have 12 boys out of 20. Unfortunately, I am doing a fairy tale theme. I am trying to "butch it up" a bit.
I just linked to your TPT store for you bird craftivity. I did it with my kids on the first day and it turned out really cute.
Thanks for all you do. Your stuff is awesome!
