Last week was a bit of a whirlwind for me. On Wednesday, I was reading a book about frogs to my students {we were studying the difference between fiction and nonfiction books} and I had a HORRIBLE headache, could hear my voice echoing in my head, and all of a sudden just started to jumble up my words. I tried reading a sentence, but it just wasn't coming out the right way. So, I tried again, and the same thing happened. I immediately knew something was seriously wrong, so I went to the office to get help.
Fast forward a few hours, I find myself in an ER getting results from my CT scan saying that I have a bleed in my brain on the upper left-hand side. I was immediately (or an hour later) care-flighted to a better hospital in Dallas so that I could have further exams.
After several tests and an MRI, we still aren't sure what caused the bleed, or what the plan of action is going to be. BUT, I do know that my God is in TOTAL control of the whole situation! I spent 3 days in the hospital, but I was completely normal the entire time. I could talk, walk, eat, and do everything just like usual (the nurses said I was their easiest ICU neuro patient ever, ha!) On Friday afternoon, I was released with the orders to not overexert myself, no exercise, and to not take certain prescription medicines along with a few other things.
Praise the Lord that I am feeling 100% better. Now, I just have to wait until December to see what's going on up there in my brain :). I'll have another MRI after the blood has had time to absorb so that they can see what is underneath. You can keep up with this new journey on my personal blog {HERE} where I go into a little more detail! I'll also update after doctor visits that I'll have throughout these next few months.
As for me right now, I feel GREAT! I just have quite a bit of worry going on, but I'm truly working on giving that totally over to God. So, after I was released on Friday I spent the weekend with our student ministry at a Fall Retreat with my husband. Once again, God's timing is more than perfect, because this is just what I needed to get my mind off of my health issues (People think I'm crazy for not relaxing all weekend, but the more I laid around, the more upset I got, so I knew this was just what I needed!). We had lots of fun just hanging out, dressing up for Nerd Night, and worshipping! Here are some of my favorite pictures from the weekend...
While I was in the hospital, I was a typical teacher and did a little bit of work on my new unit. I just couldn't help myself!!! I finished up my "Fallin' Into Fun {10 Literacy Centers} and can't wait to go back to work tomorrow to get these made!
So, after a few days off of work I am ready to go back and see my kiddos again. I have to go back with a completely different attitude than I've ever had before because I really need to have the lowest stress-level possible for my health. I'm going to work on not overreacting to the little things, and to not try and overwork myself. It's seems like an impossible task as a teacher, but knowing that I need to be healthy for my little girl will make it all worthwhile! I would definitely appreciate your prayers over the next few months :)

I, too, am grateful that you are feeling better. Taking care of oneself is a constant battle, but such an important one. You have such a bright attitude and a strong sense of commitment, you will be successful. Best wishes.
So sorry to hear about all this, but so glad you are doing okay. Before I had an MRI one time, someone passed the words of wisdom on to me and now I'm sharing with you for your next time. Spend the time praying your way through the alphabet for everyone you know. It was AMAZING how this calmed me down and how FAST it made the time in that loud clanking machine go. I only made it a little into the alphabet. What PEACE I had during the entire time.
Thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers!

Oh my goodness, Amy! You have been such an inspiration to me since I stumbled on your website 2 months ago. You have renewed my energy for teaching second graders after 26 years if teaching! I was so saddened to hear of your trouble, but you are right, our God is great and there's NOTHING He can't do. You will be in my prayers. Thank for making a difference in this teacher's life!
Oh wow, Amy!
I am so thankful He has you in His hands. I am praying for your doctors to have clarity and understanding, and for you to have peace that everything will result in His glory.

Third Grade Bookworm
I started reading your post and immediately had chills running up and down my spine. It was the end of January, 2010 when almost this exact same thing happened to me! I was reading to my students when a horrible headache came on. I tried ignoring it. Eventually the words on the page started to disappear to from vision. I thought I was getting a migraine. In the past when I’ve had one coming on, I would get blind spots in my vision. Then, I went to say something to my class and it completely came out as gibberish! I tried again, and the same thing happened. I thought I was having a stroke! I went to the school nurse who sent me to the ER, who asked tons of questions and eventually said that it was just a form of a migraine. They never ran a blood test, or anything! However, while I was there they asked if I could be pregnant, which was about the only thing I really heard them say. I went home, took a test and sure enough! Our son will be one year old this Sunday. It still makes me wonder why my body would react that way. Scary!!
Anyway, I’m sorry to write this novel, but your story was so eerily familiar. It makes me wonder if I should have went back to have some tests done. I will keep you in my prayers, and I’m SO glad to hear you are feeling better now. Take care!
Tanya Rae...
About my previous comment, it was actually January, 2011. I had to clear that up!
