I headed up to the school today, but not to decorate or get my classroom set up. Instead, I focused on nailing down my 1st week plans! It seems like every year I get so caught up in decorating, that I neglect my planning. So, this year I decided that I can't let that go to the wayside.
I do not normally format my lesson plans like this because our district uses an online lesson planning system. BUT, just to make things easier on myself for now, I decided to go ahead and type them up.
I'm not sure if the links that I put in will work, but here's where I got most of my activities from:
Abby's "Super in Second" Unit
Lindsey's "Back to School" Unit
My "My School Rules" Unit
My "Classroom Promise" Unit
And, all of the math activities came from my new unit...
After I got my plans all typed up, it was time to copy, laminate, cut out, and organize all of my teaching materials. Here are the cooperative silent puzzles
After I cut them all up...
I made my example for the Mathematician activity, and got all of my students' pieces ready!
Here's a look at how I organized craft pieces. I copied the templates onto colored paper, cut around the individual pieces, and separated them out into baggies so that I could hand out one template at a time to my students when we are making the craft!
I got their "My School Rules" booklets copied and stapled together. On the front of the booklets, they will glue a little schoolhouse craft (this craft is included in the My School Rules unit).
Here's a look at the inside of the booklets...
And, I copied so much more! Now all of my first week activities are organized and ready to go! I must say that a HUGE brick has been lifted off my shoulders! Now I can focus on getting my room decorated, organized, and ready for my students!

Do you use C-scope in Forney? We have to use it like it is our bible. This is awesome. I was moved back to first this year and was hoping to find something generic and good for the first week. Had already been planning to use First Day Jitters. Will be buying this soon. Thank You!!
Thank you so much for sharing your lesson plan. This is only my second year teaching and it is so helpful to see what an experienced teacher (who I admire from afar), does the first weeks of school. I love how you take the time to explain and explore the math manipulatives and to go over your expectations. Call me naive, but I hadn't really thought to do that. This year, I am all over it. It's those little things that will make my management so much more effective.
I love your site! Truly an awesome resource to me. I hope you don't mind I put your site on my blogroll. Truly wonderful site!

Thanks for all the great stuff!! I just saw your lesson plans format. Is it for sale? I would love to have it and create my own.

Thanks for this post! It is SO helpful! Love all your stuff!
Amy,
Thanks for sharing your first week lesson plans! This will be my first year of teaching 2nd grade and this helps give some idea of where to start! I'm looking at the ELA plans, and on the 1st day you have to make a "class graph" and an "All-About Me Handprint". Would you share where you found those activities? I haven't found them in any of the links that you listed.
I would love to hear the ten rules that you use with your kiddos! Do you mind sharing?
Thanks,
