I'm linking up with my good friend, Lindsey from The Teacher Wife, to highlight a few of my favorite picture books!
I absolutely LOVE "Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon." Normally, I read this book at the beginning of the year to kickstart the conversation about how we are all different and unique. You can find activities that I did last year with this book {HERE}
How can you NOT love Camila Cream in "A Bad Case of Stripes?!" Last year, we used this book to talk about Cause/Effect, but it is another great one to use when your students need a reminder that it's okay to be themselves! Click {HERE} to see those things from last year!
Need a book to introduce letter writing or persuasive writing? "I Wanna Iguana" is PERFECT for both!
Now, I have some freebies for you! These flap books are the perfect "go-to" activity after reading any picture book. If we ever have a few minutes of downtime, then I grab a picture book from my library and one of these activities. So simple, but very effective!

I have Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon, but never really looked into ways in using it. It just sat on my shelf! Now, it'll be used in those first couple of weeks when for a read aloud.

Those flapbooks are awesome! The first graders I student taught loved I Wanna Iguana. We taught them the basics of persuasive writing, and next thing you know they are writing letters regarding anything they wanted at that moment! So cool to see that!
