Managing AR points

I've been out of school for almost a week now.  It's been quite difficult to get motivated to do anything school-related, so I don't have a lot to share with you :)  But, if you are anything like me, you just want a little R&R time right now anyways (which is pretty much ALL I've been doing these last few days!)

The past couple of years, I have used AR ribbons to track my students' progress throughout the year.  Next year, our school-wide theme will be sports/olympics, so a few weeks ago I got to working on some new AR ribbon tags.

Click {HERE} to grab these AR tags for free :)  This year I was smart enough to make a few different versions, so that upper and lower grade-level teachers could use them!

Here's a (blurry) look at my AR boards from years past.  I give each student a ribbon, and as they earn points, I hot glue a tag onto their ribbon.  At the end of the year, they take their ribbons home with them!

BUT, this year I think I'm going to do something a little different!  Instead of doing the AR ribbons {I know, I know, I already made AR tags for next year, but I want to try something else out:)} SO, I'm going to do something more like this:

My sweet friend, Lindsey uses this board for at-home reading, but I'm going to use it for AR points.  Students will earn a bead for every test that they pass, or maybe for every point that they earn.  I'm not sure how mine will exactly turn out, but I have plenty of time to figure that all out, right?!

Oh, and I did spend a little time making some new number words.   You can purchase these chevron number words {HERE}!

I also included the numbers in black/white for those of you who prefer to use colored paper!

Okay, now I've got to get busy packing!  The Mr. and I are leading a mission trip to Honduras with a group of teenagers, so Wal-Mart, the laundry, and my suitcases are calling my name.  I can also hear my bed whispering, "come to me first ;)"

I love the Chevron numbers! I don't teach math though. Sadsville. At least I can save them for another year. :) Maybe!?! Everything looks great, Amy!

Just wnated to share what we did for AR this past school year. Our theme was "Reading Army" We just started AR this year, so it only lasted for the last three quaters. Once each child met their goal for that quater only, they moved up in rankings.... sergeant, colonel, geneal. We had little keychain tags/labels that we would write an S, C, G depending on their "ranking" When they met their goal for that semester, we gave them the S,C,G. We also had our last day of the month our Army Camo day! Where children got to wear camo clothing and their dog tags! Big hit with the boys and the girls. This year our theme is "Reading Around the World" and they get passports that are stamped. We love AR!

I have a group of friends who flew out this morning to Honduras for a mission trip. They are from Georgia. Where are you from and what part of Honduras will you be serving?

I love the bead idea for AR points! I used a sticker chart his year, but I think the kids would love the necklace idea! Thanks for being so creative and sharing with the less creative of the world like me! :)

Hi Amy! I'm a huge fan of your blog and store! Yours was one of the first teaching blogs I discovered. At the time,I didn't know teaching blogs existed! I thought I had died and gone to heaven! I've been following since and used lots of your wonderful ideas, products and freebies in my classroom! I swear we think alike! I have been really inspired by your approach to offering products that are clear and effective and created from a need you found in your classroom. After procrastinating forever, I finally opened a TpT store in Dec. and try to do the same. You are also one of the teacher/bloggers who inspired me to start my own blog. I hemmed and hawed on that one too!

Thanks so much for showing the way and for being such a wonderful example!

Good luck on your trip to Honduras, I know you will inspire the children there as well!

Hi Amy! I wanted to stop by and say hello because I have been lurking around your blog for a LONG time and now I finally have my own! I hope that you blog about your mission trip when you are home. I would love to hear about it. My sister and her husband are currently hosting a teenager from Honduras who will be living with them for a year while he interns at their church. I haven't been to Honduras yet, but I'd love to go. Happy summer!!

Hi, Amy-
Your ribbon AR bulletin board is the best idea I have found so far. Can't wait to put it together. I'm having trouble downloading the ocean-themed tags off this page. Is there a way to still gain access to these?
Love all your ideas!
Thank you
